"I Signed Up for Autopay in April 2022. Big Mistake!"
I signed up for autopay in April 2022. By doing so, I agreed for my Duke Energy bill to be taken out of my account on a monthly basis.

I did not initially receive bills from Duke Energy and therefore called Duke to ensure my account details were correct. I was told they were, and it was confirmed that I was signed up for autopsy.

In July, I received an $11,000 charge from Duke Energy. I called in to investigate the charge, was told the charge was made in error, and the charge was reversed.

I received a charge on October 11, 2022 for the amount of $864. I called in to Duke Energy to investigate and was told Duke had not been charging me monthly because of the erroneous $11,000 charge and that when Duke corrected the $11,000 error, it triggered the system to charge me in one lump sum for the entire 6 months I had been living in my home.

I did everything I was supposed to do as a customer. I signed up for autopay where I agreed to be charged on a monthly basis. I called in multiple times when I noticed Duke was not fulfilling its agreement and taking the bill out of my account monthly. Duke charged me $11,000 in error which had prevented its system from taking my bill out monthly. Duke has now, without my permission, charged me in one lump sum for a 6 month period, although I had only agreed to pay monthly.

It is Duke’s fault that I was not charged monthly. It is Duke’s fault I got an erroneous $11,000 charge. And it is Duke’s fault that I was then unabatedly charged a lump sum $864 for a 6-month period instead of the financially manageable monthly payments I signed up for. This is unethical and 6-month payments is not what I agreed to with Duke.

I have since received over $100 in overdraft fees from my bank and am placed in a status of financial hardship. I require a resolution from Duke in the form of a refund and payment plan or a discount.
I do not understand how a company could care so little about their customers, their well-being, and so little so that they would cause them financial hardship even though the customer did what they were supposed to and the fault lies with the company. Most hurtful thing is the company customer service rep said to me "you would have owed the money anyways."

"Money hungry monopoly"
I have been a Duke customer for 14 years now - SO they have gotten more than $50,000 from me. I added solar to my home and now they implement a $30 minimum bill saying, "this is to make it fair for all customers" What a crock. This minimum bill was created to directly discourage Solar installations... in "the sunshine state"! And don't be fooled by their "CLEAN ENERGY CONNECTION" program aka CEC. These solar farms they boast are not built on wastelands, they are built in places where there is ecosystems. They are now shading an area that hasn't been shaded and creating a "carbon footprint." Your home has ALREADY made its carbon footprint. What better place to put solar than on your home which already exists. The only time the CE makes sense, is for a home/condo owner who realistically cant benefit from putting solar on their home. Duke implements a "minimum fee" as a cost for being on the grid, and their profits soar to a net worth of over $14 billion!

"Duke Energy employee fraud"
Duke Energy employees refused to assist or remove charges on a total of 6 accounts they opened in error in my name. After calling to complain supervisor refused to close the accounts Cheryl until I begged her others stated that 1 call in nov 3rd requested meter installs and new service at 6 separate addresses they set up 6 accounts under my name and social at a unoccupied new construction apt complex.
Per the RFL lead sone specially gave my info. The entire situation of commercial units accounts being set up in an individual name makes no sense they insisted that i file a plice report I did, report to FTC I did they will not remove the balance and want me to pay 600. They never even pulled credit to open the Account will not close so I must report the fraudulent activity duke incident # 1009393412. Mooresville police report 2022007451. FTC 154775011

"I'll tell you what went wrong first of…"
I'll tell you what went wrong first of all dealing with Duke energy. They sent an app out a couple of years ago to all their customers to download so that they can monitor their usage and their bills so that they didn't get it surprised by high power bills after having a high amount show up on the app on my phone and contacting Duke Energy being hung up on being told Lies by the different clerks didn't answer the phone that don't really know their job and trying to lie to you about stuff they don't really don't understand I then find out that the information on the app is completely incorrect it's never going to be totally accurate from the get-go and they do not correct it when it says only app that they finally do correct the information they don't so there's really truly no way to monitor your usage with Duke Energy it's all a fake app I despise it it's not truly put out any true information and you can't get any information out of the customers or customer service when you call they are of no help to you whatsoever all they do is talk over you instead of listening to you and God give you two ears in one mouth so you learn to listen more than you talk they never learn that on top of that most of them don't even speak English so you can understand what they're saying to begin with I don't know how it is I get sent to another country to find out about a local Bill all the time and the people do not even understand how to speak English well enough to have a conversation with you yet they're representing our American companies Duke Energy I will never use again if I possibly can use anyone else

"Might as well be the axis of evil"
Just charged me almost 400 dollars for energy on a 1.5 wide mobile home, and won't put street lights on my road because they're pro crime. I get things stolen all the time when lights would deter thieves. The more visibility, the less crime. It's been proven before. I am ashamed to see this mark itself as a republican company.

"Duke is not a good fit for Florida"
I have submitted light tickets that go unrepaired, I have filled out the survey's they send out, always with feedback that their trimming and storm prep is lacking, the quality of their installs looks like a 3rd world country, no asthetic thought process involved, and extremely rude and unresponsive customer support.

"Bad company with bad customer service risking the health of the elderly"
Shortly after I moved to Kentucky, Duke Energy became the provider in Fort Thomas. Almost immediately, flat line winds took down power for over a week here. Duke Energy took their time getting it back up again. We were all cooking on Coleman stoves on our patios. All of the food in our freezers thawed and rotted.

Two days ago an outage occurred following a severe thunderstorm. Duke Energy got the power back up in my neighborhood, but stranded my over 90 year old father in Southgate, two exits up the road. The temperatures outside were above 90 degrees. When I called Duke Energy, I was told I had to go pick him up. I don't have a working car. Then, the woman hung up on me.

I then complained to everyone I could think of in government and in public utilities. Miraculously, his power was back on in one hour.

One of the things Duke Engergy told me before they hung up was that, my father had to apply for medical emergency status. How he is supposed to do that without power is beyond me. I just went onto Duke Energy's site, and apparently that's not available in Kentucky at all, so they lied. On top of this, we aren't even eligible to produce our own power with solar panels, probably because we are totally a cash cow in our support of their coal industry.

Where are we? Bangladesh? What kind of place is this?

Give me a break.

This needs to be fixed. Like now. My father has an oxygen concentrator. He's in his 90's. Apparently this is an ongoing problem in Southgate--right next to a country club.

Give me a break!

"Duke Energy Customers facing lengthy outages"
Update: Duke Energy is now estimating the outage at 25 house and counting

When you consistently face the same excuse for Duke Energy power outages you have to point that their management does not care about their Customers health and well being. As I write we are in the longest outage power outage 18 hours just because some trees fell on power lines. What would happen if a real major storm hit us. We would be out for months at this rate? It's time to complain to your Governor, Congressman and state officials and demand something be done. Duke Energy CEO and President for the Carolinas should be fired.

"Duke finds a way to make money on solar customers"
I have had solar power for a year and a half and Duke decides to change the type of meter used to calculate electric used and electric sent back to the grid. When the meter was changed without powering down the solar system it fried my power inverter. The inverter was warrantied and the solar insulation company replaced it without cost. It took 15 days to get the system up and running and Duke refused to reimburse me for the lost. I have an app that shows what was produced on each day but they wouldn't except that so I called PUCO which regulates the utilities in Ohio. They contacted Duke and Duke takes 25 dollars off my next bill. It was something but I lost half a month's power in July which is the highest production of the year. Now 6 months later I received an email stating Duke had found a calculation error and will be refunding solar customers affected.
